Release Bow Bait Tanks


A snap shot of one of our 10 gallon bow bait tanks. Each Release 43 and 46 Walk Around comes with 2 of these blue gel coated tanks installed in the bow section of every boat. She is truly a deadly live bait machine. With our nicely appointed electric reel hook ups and roomy bow section…..right out of the box she is ready for kite fishing off South Florida or even pitching live Mackerel to Stripe Marlin off Mag bay….

THE RELEASE 43’ – The Journey Begins


A classic style boat built with today’s technology.  It sounds easy, but it’s a lot easier to fail than succeed.  I knew that as tempting as it was to “copy” one of the legendary gameboats, it wasn’t an option.  So, I decided to use the 43’ Merritt as the benchmark.  Between meetings, phone calls and emails Erwin finally has a design.  Boy he hits this one out of the park!  We are starting with a blend of old school style on a modern bottom.  We’ve even got pods in this thing! So now we start tweaking the design – a little more curve in this line, a little more rake in this angle. It’s amazing how subtle changes in the design can make such a big difference.

The Process Begins – With A Fishing Trip!


One of the important decisions I made was to fly Erwin to Guatemala and have him experience the “fleet” first hand. We went out fishing on Release, a 1961 37’ Merritt.  What I wanted Erwin to see was the clean wake. I have never fished a boat that has a wake like that boat. The other unique characteristic is the way the boat slides through the water when you take her out of gear.  This is a particularly important feature when Fly fishing for billfish. So, Erwin had his challenge – clean wake, modern bottom fast, comfortable, safe and efficient. Basically, everything the 37 Merritt was PLUS everything it wasn’t.

Release Boatworks – How did this happen?

My friend Captain David Salazar and I were standing in the boatyard at Hurricane Cove Marina admiring our handiwork on a completely restored 1962 Rybovich, the Pelagian.  We were putting the finishing touches on another restoration project that had begun nearly two years earlier.  “You know” said Dave, “it’s about time to build your own boat. Aren’t you tired of restoring these old wooden boats yet?”  Well, you can’t get tired of classics – that’s why their called classics!  BUT… Dave’s statement got my props spinning.
